Turn a foam tray, toy motor, and propeller into a student-designed model airplane! Students in middle school and up, can learn about aeronautics and problem-solving with KELVIN(R)'s unique PowerPole(R) Plane Design Challenge. Compete to build the lightest and the most innovative planes!

To begin the challenge, each student designs a model plane from the provided materials. Middle school students design the top wing; advanced and high school students design the whole plane. Model planes are then attached to the power pole for a controlled, 12-foot dia. flying area.

Student-designed model planes are evaluated on their speed (rpm), how much load they can carry, and how high they can fly. Airplanes can now be designed to fly faster and higher, controlled by the operator, with no time limit. For an additional challenge, students can design a model car, hovercraft, boat or helicopter for use with the PowerPole(R).

The challenge includes a PowerPole(R) (featuring Adjustable Height, Tangle-Free Arm, Light Wire and Updated Plane Connection) and materials for 10 foam planes. Requires variable speed power supply (see below). We recommend that you also purchase the assembled trainer (#840828). Grades 5 and Up.
